MG Midget and Austin-Healey Sprite Restoration Manual
Lindsay Porter
ISBN: 1859606148
Hardback
Review:
On the face of it, Lindsey Porter's book is a good read for all Spridget enthusiasts. There's no doubt that, even if you never intend to do any of the work yourself, you'll benefit from the knowledge of how one of these cars is put together. However, this book will be of most use to those who already have that knowledge. And they are the very people least likely to need it. The black and white photographs are small and it's not always easy to see what's what. And while much is covered, the book attempts to cover basic restoration of many models. It is unable, therefore, to go into detail about apparently trivial matters such as the fitting of headlights and bumpers, for example. There's an excellent section on engine stripping. But it was irritating that there's nothing on reassembly. An interesting read and useful to many. Poor rating, though, because attempt to include much gives breadth but not detail. If you're a novice, there's not enough here. If you're experienced, you won't need it.
MG: The Untold Story - Postwar Concepts, Styling, Exercises and Development Cars
David Knowles
ISBN: 1859150640
A large interesting book filled with great insights into never seen projects. A lot of excellent pictures. And, for those of us who love MG Sports Sedans, documentation of the fact that the MG 1100 was originally to be named the MGC. A must for lovers of MGs of any era.
